  16. of a stroke; in Greenville, Mississippi. Thomas personified
  17. classic Mississippi Delta blues. A composer and performer of
  18. odes to hard times, sex and survival, Thomas learned the blues
  19. by listening to the radio. He was approaching middle age when
  20. his work finally became known to the world through films produced
  21. by the Center for Southern Folklore, providing him with a cultish
  22. international audience of admirers.
